My Very First Post

Hello Everyone

Welcome to Natural Mommy and Me.

This is my very first blog. I created it to document my transition into becoming a Natural! I am thirty years old and have two children, a son that is eight and a daughter that is four. I decided to go natural a few months ago in the hopes of keeping my daughter's hair perm free. I thought how could I keep her hair unprocessed if I was always reaching for a relaxer? Since first going natural I have learned of some new terminology, techniques, and even products that make natural hair less of burden. I hope you will join us on our journey of ups, downs, trials, errors, and triumphs.   Please feel free to ask questions or leave comments.

I’ll start with the basics, which for me was terminology.

BC or Big Chop: The process of cutting off the relaxed/permed ends of the hair to reveal your natural texture.
TWA or Teenie Weenie Afro:  This term refers to the hairstyle that is worn by most women who recently BC.
Co-Wash:  Washing hair using only a moisturizing conditioner.
Pre-poo:  Prepping hair with conditioner, oils or treatments prior to washing hair, as a way to reduce the drying effects of most shampoos which contain sulfates.

Here is a picture that can help you when discussing your length or lack thereof when talking to a veteran natural.
